PECOS 2009, AUGUST 6-9

NEWS AND UPDATES

Field Trip Update: We regret that the field trip to the sites below the North escarpment of Mesa Verde (# 11) has been cancelled. If you signed up for that trip, you will be moved to your second or third choice.

A preliminary program schedule is up here.

On Sunday, August 9 at noon the BLM --Anasazi Heritage Center invites you to Montezuma County's first public screening of Paul S. Martin's 'motion pictures' taken during the 1930-31 excavations at Lowry Pueblo. For more information contact the Anasazi Heritage Center at 970-882-5600.

Mail-in registrations will be accepted until July 31. After that, plan on registering at the conference.

The demonstration of moving a large stone using prehistoric technology will take place Thursday night, August 6th at the Cortez Cultural Center. It will begin at 4:00PM.

There will be a book signing by Craig Childs after his presentation on the evening of August 7th, at the Pecos Conference site.

A host is needed for Pecos 2010.  Please let us know if your organization can take on this very important task next year.  If you are still thinking about hosting the Conference, please come to the Conference Business Meeting to present your invitation.

Dogs are always welcome at the Pecos Conference, and this year will be no exception.  However there is one rule.  They have to be on a leash at all times.  We appreciate pet owners who live by this rule.

Fires will not be allowed in the camping area at the Pecos Conference this year.  This is for several reasons.  First, there are safety concerns.  Second, Forest Service rules do not allow open fires.  Finally, there are archaeological sites in the vicinity of the camping areas, and we don’t want to cause additional damage to them.
