Escalante Days, Dolores In August, area residents again celebrate the town's history by participating in Escalante Days, a time set aside to honor the Spanish expedition of Fathers Escalante and Dominguez. Local artisans display their arts and crafts, and food booths operate in Flanders Park, located on the town square. Along with the arts and crafts, there is a parade, entertainment, games for children and adults, a softball tournament, mountain bike race, rubber duck race, and lots of camaraderie.
The Anasazi
Heritage Center is a museum of
the Ancestral Puebloan (or Anasazi)
culture and other Native cultures in the Four Corners region.
The
mission of the Cortez
Cultural Center
is to provide a forum for the community's educational, cultural,
artistic and scientific interests. It is a catalyst for cultural
respect, continuity and innovation.
The Crow
Canyon Archaeological
Center located in southwestern
Colorado, is dedicated to
understanding, teaching, and preserving the rich history of the
ancestral Pueblo Indians (also called the Anasazi) who inhabited the
canyons and mesas of the Mesa Verde region more than 700 years ago.
Canyons of the Ancients National Monument in southwestern Colorado contains a huge number of archaeological sites (more than 6000 recorded, up to 100 per square mile in some places) representing the Ancestral Puebloan and other Native American cultures, as well as important historic and environmental resources.
Mesa Verde National Park, situated
in the southwest corner of Colorado, offers a spectacular look into the
lives of the Ancestral Pueblo people who made it their home for over
700 years, from A.D. 600 to A.D. 1300. Today, the park protects over
4,000 known archeological sites, including 600 cliff dwellings. These
sites are some of the most notable and best preserved in the United
States.
